WinZip is a file-compression program, which also offers file encryption, file sharing, and data backup. The latest version of WinZip delivers faster file compression and decompression technology than former versions. The feature garnering the most buzz is WinZip's desktop gadget. Drag and drop files into the gadget to zip and email or zip and save them without opening the WinZip program. You can also unzip almost any type of compressed file, including Zipx, RAR, and 7Z. Improved navigation includes context-sensitive icons, which automatically change according to the task you are performing. The latest edition of WinZip continues to significantly reduce the size of graphic images and digital photos by about 20%. Protect confidential information or images you want to keep private with AES encryption. Zipped files can be password-protected. Zip and organize your data into groups to share with others. And enjoy the automated backups, which help prevent data loss. WinZip's suite of features is extensive, though some users feel strongly about the fact that, after the 45-day trial period, they have to shell over cash for the formerly free file-compression program.
