Product Review
Spybot Search and Destroy finds and removes spyware, often not covered by antivirus programs. Spyware compiles data about your surfing behavior to create marketing profiles for you, which are then sold to advertising companies. Spybot prevents your surfing and buying patterns from being shared without your knowledge. The free version of Spybot offers both easy and advanced modes for removing adware, spyware, keyloggers, and usage tracks. Shred threats and permanently block tracking cookies and threatening downloads in Internet Explorer. In the advanced mode, automate scans and spyware definition updates. Also fix any inconsistencies in the registry, occurring from adware or other malicious program installations. Scanned results are arranged by type, making it easy to view information about potential threats, so you can better decide whether or not you want to kill them. The Immunize feature blocks uninvited Web guests from entering your computer’s living areas. Users report some instability and a fair amount of false positives with the antispyware program. But Spybot has a hearty list of features, and recent updates do seem to make it run faster.
