Malwarebytes Anti-Malware detects and removes malware, including dialers, rogues, rootkits, spyware, trojans, and worms. Tests show that the antimalware tool is rather effective at knowing the difference between harmful apps and false positives. Frequent updates keep the malware database fresh, and the scans are competitively quick. Malwarebytes has a small footprint, so it installs quickly. With a simple user interface, it's easy to configure and start using. Users report that it is effective at removing rogues and scareware, though it doesn't perform as well against keyloggers and rootkits. You can scan multiple drives, including on-demand scans of specific files. The FileAssassin tool can be used to remove locked files. The free version of Malwarebytes allows you to scan and clear the bad guys out of your system, but it does not offer real-time protection. Real-time malware updates along with the ability to schedule scans is reserved for the commercial version.
