QuickTime is a multimedia platform and media player. It allows you to view HD movie trailers, videos on the Internet, and personal media in several different formats. Use it to view videos from your camera or mobile phone or to watch movies from your computer. The standard QuickTime download bundles iTunes with it, making the download size swell much more than is necessary. But, like most Apple products, QuickTime Player has a sleek interface with intuitive controls. A slider feature allows you to play back a movie at up to three times the original speed and to quickly search individual movie frames. The most important feature of the latest version of QuickTime is the H.264 codec. This video compression technology displays videos in crystal clear, HD quality—even when viewed at full screen—without taking up lots of bandwidth. Basically, it's difficult to steer clear of QuickTime if you watch much media online. The free version will let you open one file at a time. If you want to open several files at a go or create and edit projects, you will have to purchase QuickTime Pro.
